Get Low

yes, i know....strange title.....but you'll understand shortly.....

as a professional photographer i get many questions about cameras and taking better photos.  i love the idea of helping clients (and others) to take better pictures of their children each and every day.

i believe it is possible to get great photos of your kids whether you have a point and shoot digital camera or a DSLR.  one important aspect of a great photo....a wow photo....is composition.  it's the norm to take a photo straight on.  that doesn't leave much of a wow factor in an average photo.

instead....shoot up, get low:

Photobucket

this photo was taken by kent with a samsung point and shoot camera (that was purchased because of the color and not the quality).  it's a straight out of the camera photo, no editing.

an upward angled approach adds a whole new dimension to this photo.  Isn't it pretty awesome?!

here is another photo.

Photobucket

notice how clean and sharp this photo is at the focus point.  The top marigold that has bloomed.

adds a new level of interest don't you think?

here is Kent's favorite photo.

Photobucket

the flower is in focus and sharp and the picture has a blurred background (or bekoh in the photography world).

all of these pictures were taken by kent and are straight out of the camera (SOOC) with no post processing.

so, yes....it is possible to take great photos with a point and shoot.  just take some time to get to know your camera and practice.  get low - get high - get sideways.  have fun with it!
