I have to share a story that has left me giggling.
On our daily evening walk paige and I came across a family of puppies on the front lawn of a home. After watching one of the puppies proudly prance across the yard with a prized object in its mouth I turned to paige with a smile. I was greeted with paige’s own big puppy dog eyes and a lower lip sticking out.
Mooooooom…..can we pleeeease have a puppy?!
My smile quickly turned into a very serious look followed by a firm “NO”.
Buuut moooom they are soooo cute!!!
Yes, honey, they are very cute………but what do puppies do???
And I’m waiting for the obvious answer….”they grow up”……but instead I get…….
They get worms???!!!
Oh dear.

Grillin' A Great Recipe
spring is here so it's time to break out the grill!
we have a charcoal grill that rocks! it's cooks up some the the BEST food. one thing i LOVE about this time of the year is that the rolls reverse when it come to cooking supper. now, when we get home, it's kent whipping up the meal while we assist and wait. lovin that! :0)
years ago, kent traveled for a telecommunication company. he was a lead of five guys that would travel regionally and most of the group was from kentucky. it was common for each of the guy's families to host the crew for a night or more depending on what area they would be traveling. with us being centrally located in the state we did a lot of hosting. during this time we ate good! we would literally have FEASTS. one of the guys shared a great recipe that to this day we still fix and enjoy. we call it......
salt and vinegar cornish hens
in a sauce pan bring to a boil:
one stick of butter
1 cup of water
1/2 cup of salt
16 oz of white vinegar
1 TB of crushed red peppers
allow to boil for a bit to mix everything well
now, while you are boiling your ingredients you've already got the cornish hens on the grill starting to cook. we normally fix three small cornish hens (one for each of us because they are small).
about mid way through the cooking of the hens start to dip them in the sauce pan and return them to the grill for a few minutes and continue to dip them after approximately 10 minutes on the grill at a time. continue until they are completely cooked. i honestly can't provide a time here on how long to expect it to take....kent is the master of this.
this is definitely not the healthiest meal (so we don't cook it too often because of that reason only) but it's very good! it's worth the overload of sodium and fat to enjoy this every now and then!
if it sounds like something you would enjoy don't hesitate to give it a try.
happy tuesday!!!!

First Race of 08
as i've mentioned before, we love going to hare scrambles. we have so much fun spending time with friends and watching the race. we do a lot of hiking and get a really good workout for the day. usually, you see the same people at each race so it's almost like one big family....but we have our close friends we go to support if we aren't racing ourselves (meaning kent or paige....not me).
the kids race first and then the adults take off.
kent giving our friend's son a pep talk.
i guess kent is keeping the bike seat warm...hehe
this boy was sitting beside kent.........kent was pretending that he was racing in his class and was telling the boy all of his strategies.....the boy thought he was serious! this is him listening very intensely.
a few shots of the kids during the race.
and then the adults line up.
one of our good friends has been very successful racing and here he is getting an interview before the race. if you look closely, you'll find paige in the background to the right with her friend and some of our other friends we were with.
by the time the adults were racing i was tired of lugging my big camera around so i put it down and enjoyed the rest of the day. we have so much fun and with the weather finally being SO nice it's great to get out and have some fun!

Toys In Cereal???
when i was a kid, the cereal purchased for the week was all about the toy inside. it was nothing to stroll down the cereal aisle viewing the different toy options and making your choice based on the coolest toy in the box. now-a-days, to find a toy in a cereal box is like finding a lost 100.00 dollar bill! as paige was helping me put the groceries away this evening....i noticed a bunch of commotion out of the corner of my eye....and then i see paige going after a box of apple jacks like she's a starving child that hasn't eaten for weeks! here is what the commotion was all about.......
not really a "toy" but a glowing spoon is pretty cool!

Little Beagle
this little girl has been visiting for quite some time now but never allowed anyone to get very close.....finally....tonight she came up to us and allowed us to pet her! i couldn't believe it! i think she was dropped and has taken up residence at a home down the street (she now has a collar and i've seen her hang in that area quite a bit). i guess she's spent enough time now around the people in the community to drop her guard and allow everyone to love on her. she's a sweetie!
