Weathered Pop of Red
While Paige was bleaching items out of her closet to create unique one of a kind pieces for her wardrobe, Kent and I were picking cherry tomatoes.
You wouldn't believe the number of little green tomatoes growing on our vines!
I loved the pop of red against the weathered box. As always, off I ran through the house to grab my trusty camera!
Images are SOOC which means "straight out of the camera".
** A little advanced photo tip: A huge part to photography is lighting. Notice there are many levels of depth in shadows and light in both photos. I chose to meter my lighting off 1) the lightest part of the picture so that I wouldn't lose quality in my image from overexposure and 2) the subject I wanted to stand out most in the photo (one particular tomato). In order to do this, I used spot metering. The end goal is to get the picture right in the camera and not compensate later through post processing. I also wanted the shadows to be present in the photo to give a certain overall feel to the photo. This is why knowing the photo in your mind before clicking the shutter is important.

Get Low
yes, i know....strange title.....but you'll understand shortly.....
as a professional photographer i get many questions about cameras and taking better photos. i love the idea of helping clients (and others) to take better pictures of their children each and every day.
i believe it is possible to get great photos of your kids whether you have a point and shoot digital camera or a DSLR. one important aspect of a great photo....a wow photo....is composition. it's the norm to take a photo straight on. that doesn't leave much of a wow factor in an average photo.
instead....shoot up, get low:
this photo was taken by kent with a samsung point and shoot camera (that was purchased because of the color and not the quality). it's a straight out of the camera photo, no editing.
an upward angled approach adds a whole new dimension to this photo. Isn't it pretty awesome?!
here is another photo.
notice how clean and sharp this photo is at the focus point. The top marigold that has bloomed.
adds a new level of interest don't you think?
here is Kent's favorite photo.
the flower is in focus and sharp and the picture has a blurred background (or bekoh in the photography world).
all of these pictures were taken by kent and are straight out of the camera (SOOC) with no post processing.
so, yes....it is possible to take great photos with a point and shoot. just take some time to get to know your camera and practice. get low - get high - get sideways. have fun with it!

What To Wear - Fall 2012
All the signs of fall nearing are present! That means - family photo season!!
What's one of the biggest concerns when planning your session?? That's right! What to wear.
Here are a few ideas. Be sure to visit my pinterest board for additional options.
Oranges, burnt reds/oranges, plum + neutral
Green + Gray
Plum + Neutral
Red + Gray (Christmas! - may or may not be available at Old Navy)
Blue/Denim + Neutral
Black + Brown (always classic)
Can't go wrong accent colors to give that pop for fall - Blue, Green, Plum, Red, Orange, Yellow (maybe a golden yellow for fall)
Also pastels are great! They offer a wonderful timeless feel. Pastel plum is gorgeous!! But yet not too feminine for dad. Maybe pair with gray for dad.
Since I have such wonderful clients that are already fashionistas, I thought I would share (or remind) of some great fall color choices in action:
A great reason to choose Alysia Lawrence Photography as your family photographer - I'm here to listen and help towards tailoring your perfect session. From the look and feel of the session, outfit choices, location choices and anything else you might need.
